PUT OUT THAT FIRE: When a group of Upper Darby, Pa., volunteer fireman got together to go to a Rolling Stones concert Sunday evening, they decided to commandeer one of the station's fire trucks. Not only that, they brought along a woman who put on a fireman's helmet, stripped off her cutoff shorts and bared her thong while posing "suggestively" for the men who, according to the Philadelphia Daily News, took photos. Upper Darby officials are not amused. "From what we know," the city's chief administrative officer told the paper, "it appears that these firefighters were not at this location on official township firefighter business."

SHOO FLY, DON'T BOTHER ME: The city of Colton, Calif., says it's had it with flies. On Wednesday, according to Associated Press, its mayor said the city would no longer try to provide a healthy habitat for the only fly on the endangered-species list: the Delhi Sands fly, which makes its home in the city's dunes. Officials say that helping the fly has halted development projects and sapped tax revenues. But the Fish and Wildlife Service is not persuaded. Spokesperson Jane Herndon told AP: "The Endangered Species Act does not differentiate between a species that is cute and fuzzy with a species that may not have the charisma but has a value."
