Enough Gravitas Already
Signs point to a slender possibility that the solemn debates over the choice of Dick Cheney as VP may be winding down. Just in time, dear diary. Jay Leno seems to be running out of jokes about Mr. Cheney's medical condition. And there was that moment last Thursday night when the jokes produced only silence--the audience having apparently failed to see the hilarity in Mr. Cheney's heart attacks.
Attention seems to be turning to Al Gore's choice of running mate. Saturday night through Sunday morning the subject has been George Mitchell and the gravitas he would bring to the Democratic ticket. Dear diary, give me the journalist who doesn't utter the word "gravitas" for one day and I will wear him in my heart of hearts forever.
