1. James Blaine (from Maine; Republican nominee in 1884).

2. Reverse alphabetical by middle name.

3. John Adams; 1800 was not a leap year.

4. By the date on which a justice with the same last name joined the U.S. Supreme Court.

5. Gerald Ford; the oldest ever living ex-president.

6. Carry the state of his birth.

7. Coolidge (born July 4, 1872).

8. Number of days served without a vice president.

9. George Washington; his first inauguration was on April 30 and subsequent inaugurations (until 1937) were on March 4.

10. A birthday; James Polk (born Nov. 2, 1795) and Warren Harding (born Nov. 2, 1865).
