Mark Lasswell Mark Lasswell is the deputy books editor of The Wall Street Journal. Previously he worked as an editor at the New York Observer and the New York Daily News, and he was a contributing editor at Spy magazine. His freelance writing before joining the Journal in 2005 included many pieces for the paper's Taste page. Born in St. Louis, Mo., Mr. Lasswell graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri.
